NHVOA Apprentice dates for 2021-2022


FIRST YEAR APPRENTICES
Saturday, August 21, All day at NHTI, Concord
     Classroom: 9 am - 12 pm, Volleyball Court: 12 pm - 3 pm


Saturday, August 28, All day at NHTI, Concord
     Classroom: 9 am - 12 pm, Volleyball Court: 12 pm - 3 pm

Sunday, September 12, at NHTI, Concord
     Classroom: 5 - 8 pm 

Session 4, September 26, at NHTI, Concord
     Classroom: 10 - 11 am (Volleyball Test) 
SECOND YEAR APPRENTICES

Officials New to Officiating Volleyball
Year 1
  • Attend mandatory rules interpretation clinics, held from late August through October.
  • Pass a closed book written exam, with a minimum score of 80%. The closed book test will be conducted at a date and time, as determined by the apprentice chairperson. Test will be supplied by the interpreter to the apprentice chair.
  • Attend preseason jamborees held in late August, as directed by the apprentice chair.
  • Attend any mid-season clinic, if offered by the association, for patched officials
  • Attend matches (unpaid) as follows:
  1. Preseason: Attend rules interpretation clinics and preseason jamborees at NHTI.
  2. Weeks 1-2: Observe a JV/Varsity match.
  3. Weeks 3-4: Officiate a JV match as R2 in the first two sets and officiate as R1 in a non-deciding third set.
  4. Weeks 5-6: Officiate a JV match as R2 in the first two sets and officiate as R1 in a non-deciding third set.
  5. Weeks 7-8: Officiate a JV match as R2 in the first two sets and officiate as R1 in a non-deciding third set.
  • Wear proper officiating attire when observing matches.
  • Officiate freshmen and middle school matches throughout the season.
  • Participate in scheduled in-season training clinics, as directed by the apprentice chair.
  • Take a floor test at the end of the season, working as R1 and R2.​
Years 2 or 3
  • Attend one of the annual  rules interpretation clinics (held the first and third Sundays in August).
  • Pass an open book test, with a minimum score of 80, as outlined in the NHVOA By-Laws.
  • Attend preseason jamborees, held in late August, as directed by the apprentice chair.
  • Attend matches (unpaid) as follows:
  1. Preseason: Attend preseason jamborees at NHTI.
  2. Weeks 1-2: Officiate a JV match as R2 in the first two sets and officiate as R1 in a non-deciding third set.
  3. Weeks 3-4: Officiate a JV match as R2 in the first two sets and officiate as R1 in a non-deciding third set.
  4. Weeks 5-6: Attend a Middle School match, (double-header when possible) and work with a mentor, officiating at R1 and R2.
  5. Weeks 7-8: Officiate a JV match as R2 in the first two sets and officiate as R1 in a non-deciding third set.
  • Attend any mid-season clinic, if offered by the association, for patched officials.
  • Officiate freshmen and middle school matches throughout the season.
  • Pass a floor test at the end of the fall season as R1 and R2. The floor test will be held at a JV Tournament.
Years 2 or 3 that are Provisionally Patched
  • The official is patched.
  • The official must meet all the requirements of a second year apprentice.

Year 3--First year official
  • Attend one of the regular rules interpretation clinic (held the first and third Sundays in August);
  • Pass an open book test with a minimum score of 80 as outlined in the NHVOA By-Laws
  • Attend preseason jamborees held in late August as directed by the apprentice chair.
  • Attend mid-season clinic(s).
